THE CONTRIBUTION of Late Pundit Lokpati Tripathi towards Congress was recalled by Congressmen at the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) in Varanasi on Tuesday to mark his first death anniversary.

Presiding over the function, MGKV vice-chancellor Prof SS Kushwaha said Tripathi was a great son of a Congress leader Late Pundit Kamlapati Tripathi, who had raised the voice of social justice.

“He had done jutsice with the tradition of Tripathi’s family (Aurangabad Gharana),” he said and added that Late Lokpati Tripathi had always followed purity and consciousness in politics.

Speaking as guest of honour on the occasion Congress leader Ashok Vajpayee said, “One can pay real tributes to Tripathi by regaining the lost ground and pride of Congress in Uttar Pradesh which was his dream,” he said. Congressmen should follow the political standards set by him, he added.

Vajpayee also shared his past memories when he had met Tripathi in Allahabad and Lucknow. He said Tripathi had taught him some political lessons when he had been elected as MLA from Allahabad in the period of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Former State Minister and Senior Congress leader Prof Kailash Nath Singh Yadav exhorted the people to do politics with moral values and purity. He added that Congressmen should learn lessons from his life and personality.

“By adopting the ideals set by Tripathi in politics one can get rid from the crimanilisation of politics,” he said.

Prof Satish Rai (a faculty member of MGKV) and Vijay Shankar Pandey also highlighted the contribution of Late Tripathi and said that people should adopt the ideals of Late Tripathi in public life. President of District Congress Committee, Satish Chaubey, conducted the function.

Other prominent personalities who were present on the occasion included, Harishankar Singh, Shyam Narayan Singh, Kailash Tandon, Anjali Tripathi, Ramkaran Patel, Shiv Mangal Ram Singh and Maqbul Hasan.
