Shaheen sees the jewellery scene changing rapidly. "In the last two or three months, Indian motifs, especially the North Indian influence, have come back in a big way. Personally, I am greatly India-inspired. This will be seen in my latest jewellery launch, 'The Drama Queen Collection'. The sun-moon, star, paisley, peacock, all Indian designs will come through in my creations,” says Shaheen.

People are mixing jewellery and are more open to experimenting with their style. For Shaheen, every piece that she makes should outgrow trends. "Even if someone takes it out 2-3 years down the line, they can still wear it," says the designer. Commenting on the phase that is on its way out, she says, "We went through a phase of platinum and diamonds, the so-called bling bling phase which is still in, but is slowly on its way out."

Rekha

The jewellery she is wearing is very interesting, in that it is typically Hyderabadi. The earrings worn are typical of the Hyderabadi royal family. Just below her necklace is a peacock or paisley which is called

kalgi

, that used to be a turban ornament the Nizams would wear. It looks like jewellery that was passed on from generation to generation.

Shaheen says she wants to borrow Rekha's jewellery.
