Love Jihad accused sent to 14-day police remand

Love jihad accused Ranjit Singh Kohli alias Raqibul Hassan Khan and his mother, Kausar Parveen alias Kaushal Rani have been sent on 14-day police remand by a court here on Thursday. Kohli was arrested at Dwarka in New Delhi.

Kohli was arrested by joint team of Jharkhand and Delhi police on Tuesday at the national capital’s Dwarka area.

He was flown to Ranchi on Wednesday night and was kept police custody. The accused has been booked under Section 498 A of the CrPC for allegedly forcing his wife Tara Shahdeo, a national level gold medalist shooter, to convert to Islam.

Kohli has been also booked under Sections 153 A – wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot – and Section 295 A - deliberate and hateful acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or beliefs.
