Love on wheels

In the run up to Valentine’s Day, HT City looks at Bollywood on wheels.

Be it Rajesh Khanna singing the evergreen Mere Sapno Ki Rani from a hoodless jeep or Aamir Khan crooning Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar on a bicycle, Bollywood’s love affair with the wheels has always rung in delight. And with Valentine’s Day round the corner, there’s nothing better than remembering some sweet ‘wheeling-dealing’ filmi moments.

Not too long ago, Hrithik Roshan singing Kyun Chalti Hai Pawan on a BMW convertible, in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai made for a pretty picture. Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor couldn’t have exuded better chemistry while romancing north India’s highways in Jab We Met. Even the blossoming teenage romance in Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na atop a truck left many craving for the good ‘ol tinselville days.

More recently, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone singing Chor bazaari on a taxi, struck a ‘high’ note. And soon carrying the love story forward will be Farhan Akhtar when he sings Hey Ya in his forthcoming release Karthik Calling Karthik. Saif seems to have a fixation for romancing ladies on the move — the train song from Parineeta being the best. And since love isn’t restricted to the opposite sex, on-the-go numbers from Dil Chahta Hai and Dostana are all-time hits.
