Nearly 800 polling booths here wore a deserted look.

As many as 55 voters cast their votes in Lal Bazar polling booth in downtown Srinagar after two hours of polling where a police station was attacked by militants yesterday resulting in injuries to nine policemen.

Even in rural areas of the constituency including Kangan and Ganderbal as also in five assembly segments of Budgam district, polling commenced on a dull note, the sources said.

Rambagh polling station registered 50 votes followed by Sheshgari mohalla (34), Nowpora (30) and Natipora (two), the sources said.

The sources said serpentine queues, witnessed in the last elections in rural areas of Badgam and city suberbs, were missing, so far.

However, officials expect a good voter turnout later in the day.
