YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday said he has kept his options on post-poll alliance open in view of the 'cruelty' with which Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated into Seemandhra and Telangana.

His hint at the possibility of siding with NDA coincided with Seemandhra polling 77% – officials said it could cross 80% – acrosss 25 Lok Sabha and 175 assembly constituencies. The YSR Congress' prime rival in the region is the BJP-TDP combine.

"We are not in a hurry to support anybody. Our options are open," he said after casting his vote at Pulivendula in Kadapa district. He added the high percentage of voting pointed to a clean sweep by his party.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu too was upbeat about the chances of the TDP-BJP alliance. "The turnout augurs well for us. It will be a one-sided victory," he said.

In Hyderabad, chief electoral officer Bhanwarlal said 77% polling was recorded till 6pm. "The figure may touch 80-81% as many were still in queues to vote after the deadline. Guntur district recorded 83% polling while Visakhapatnam had the lowest turnout of 73%," he said.

The lowest, as it turned out, was higher than what Telangana recorded – 70.85% – in the first phase on April 30.

Wednesday's balloting was marked by sporadic clashes between members of rival parties, leaving at least 20 persons injured. Three police vehicles were damaged in attacks by villagers in Kadapa district.

In Visakhapatnam district, suspected Maoists damaged two EVMs in a polling centre in Paderu assembly constituency. "We have recommended re-polling there," Bhanwarlal said.

Meanwhile, TRS has reportedly asked the Centre to advance the date for creating Telangana from June 2 to May 17, as "post-poll scenario might create hurdles".
