One of the persons named in the CID charge sheet in the Madan Tamang murder case was murdered on Wednesday evening in his locality Singla, on the West Bengal-Sikkim border.

Dil Kumar Rai in his later 30s was found murdered at around 6:30pm in Singla.

"A police team has recovered the body and brought it to the Darjeeling Sadar Police Station. He was murdered with a sharp weapon. The person was wanted in several cases. A warrant had been issued against him in the Madan Tamang murder case and he was absconding" stated Kunal Agarwal, additional superintendent of Police, Darjeeling.

Mob stabs Gorkha leader to death


The motive of the murder is not yet known. Police have started investigation. All India Gorkha League (AIGL) leader Madan Tamang was hacked to death on May 21, 2010 by an armed mob at around 9:20am at the Upper Clubside Stand in Darjeeling town while overseeing preparations for a public meeting to begin at 10:00am on that day.

CID investigating initially investigating the case had filed a charge sheet naming 30 persons and 61 witnesses on August 30, 2010. Rai's name featured in the charge sheet. Police had conducted several raids at his house in SIngla but failed to nab him. Rai had been absconding since then. The Madan Tamang murder case was later handed over to the CBI.
