Pop megastar Madonna is the world's highest-earning female singer, knocking Britney Spears off the top spot for the first time in five years, according to the new Guinness Book of Records.
Madonna earned an estimated 50 million dollars, knocking fellow US singer Spears off the perch she had held since 2001.
In the world of books, "Harry Potter" author JK Rowling remains the richest children's writer, racking up 34.2 million pounds per year for her world best-seller tales.
At the cinema, director Peter Jackson's remake of "King Kong" smashed the box office record for the most expensive movie ever made at 207 million US dollars, according to the 2007 edition.
The world-famous Guinness book, which has more than 4,000 records, includes a computer section for the first time. It is published in more than 100 countries and 23 languages -- including Arabic for the first time this year.
New editor-in-chief Craig Glenday said he has revamped the book this year to counter criticism that it had become a bit trivial.
"I've removed things like the longest time spent sitting in a bath of baked beans as there are much more worthwhile things to do with your time," he said.
But that doesn't mean the book has become too serious: the new edition includes pictures of US teenager Aaron Studman, owner of the tallest hair at 21 inches (53 centimetres) high, and Lee Redmond, whose fingernails are 24 feet and seven inches (4.45 metres) long.
"Some of the people in the book are my childhood heroes," said Glenday, adding that the book draws on information from some 25 official Guinness World Record adjudicators across the globe.
