Son of former chief minister late Vasantdada Patil, 'Prakashbapu', as he was popularly known, had been ailing for some time, the sources said.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Prabha Rau, have expressed grief over Patil's demise.

"As a representative of people of Sangli in the Lok Sabha, Patil had left an indelible impression", the Chief Minister said in a message.

Sources in the Chief Minister's office said he would be attending Patil's funeral at Sangli on Saturday.

Rau said Patil worked for the common man throughout his political and social career.

"He had inherited that legacy from his late father, who was very close to the poor and common man", Rau added.
