Make it foolproof

Udit Raj’s arguments are highly flawed and biased. He should know that US implemented a ‘voluntary’ reservation system (as against a ‘forced’ quota system) because it has a fool-proof system of ensuring that reservation benefits reach the right people. In India, no such fool-proof system exists. A caste certificate can be procured by changing one’s name, for as little as Rs 500. Discontent is bound to be created in such corrupt system.

Speak up

The Supreme Court was forced to intervene to prevent the BJP Yuva Morcha’s protests in Gujarat over the film Fanaa from turning violent. The government had proved incapable of handling the situation on its own. The time has come for the common people to stand up against unruly sections such as these who attempt to disrupt peace for communal reasons.

Wasted on security

It has become a norm to provide security to political leaders, irrespective of the genuine need for it. Moving around with a posse of policemen has become a status symbol. And crores of taxpayers’ money is spent on this. The time has come to either withdraw the protection, unless it is for people facing real threat to their lives or those who are willing to pay for it themselves.

Cut out the theatrics

Sreesanth in the Indian cricket team would do well to cut out his excessive theatrics before he bowls. His comment that he should have aimed at the middle stumps to out the West Indies batsman wasn’t a result of any introspection — just more drama. The coach should counsel the young cricketer that his on-field style statements don’t work.
