Small is in “Simplest solution is to invest in a sofa-cum-bed. The living room (or TV room or the study) could be easily transformed into a guest room with a sofa-cum-bed. While designing a new house one could invest in partitions (maybe of glass or wood) to break a larger space into smaller units. Have lot of dual function products to open up the space,” says Angeline Loiseau of Zolijns Designs.

The essentials If space is not a constraint, “then guest room being a part of your home should be done in the same theme as the rest of the house,” says Vandana Khosla of Elvy.

As far as decorating the guest room is concerned, one should make sure that the room is not overdone. “There should be all basic things in the room for example; separate wardrobe, luggage stand, complete set of fresh toiletteries etc,” says Gautam Gupta of Vinayak furnishings. If there’s a separate guest room and one doesn’t have to transform some other room into one, even then, Loiseau suggests, “Furniture should be minimal.”

Musts for guest room:
Comfortable bed (invest in a top quality mattress);
Upholstered chair or a lounger;
Luggage rack
