"He is a well-known film personality. He has devoted his life to the cause of cultural and social activities with great success."
The CM added, "He is an asset of not only West Bengal, but also of the entire country. We are proud to nominate him."
Chakraborty, 61, burst on to the scene in 1976 with Mrigaya by Mrinal Sen. He bagged the National Award for best actor.
In 1982, he triggered a dancing craze in India with Disco Dancer. The star of many superhits, the actor is a big draw these days on a reality dance show on television. He also sinks his teeth every now and then into meaty parts such as the one in Mani Ratnam's Guru.
