The accused, Narender Mehlawat, who was in property business and said to have linked to a political party, is absconding after a case was lodged against him on June 6 for trying to assault a girl in a car which he was driving in DLF Phase 2.

According to police, Neha (name changed), who has been staying in a rented house in Sector 4, Gurgaon, is employed with an office dealing in properties. She went with the accused to see new homes for her when Mehlawat forced her into his car.

Later, he attempted to rape her and in the ensuing struggle she fell out of the vehicle in the N block area in Gurgaon.

Mehlawat’s lawyer applied for his interim bail arguing that the accused could not molest or rape the girl while driving the car. The court has reserved its decision on the bail plea for Saturday. The defense lawyer also contended had his client attempted rape then certainly the victim’s clothes would have torn off.
