Man beats wife causing loss of foetus

A woman was allegedly beaten by her husband that resulted in termination of her pregnancy. The incident occurred in Talaiya recently. The police said that the victim, Shabnam, 29, was thrashed by her husband M Hanif, 35.

Hanif, who is a municipal corporation employee, allegedly assaulted her with belt too. The victim, who was in her fourth month of pregnancy, was injured and later went to her parents' house to Sehore. She lost the child in Sehore a few days later. Subsequently, she made a complaint to the police there. The case was registered in Kotwali and subsequently transferred to Bhopal and registered at Talaiya police station here.

The police said that according to the complaint, Hanif's mother Chhuttan Bi and sister Rashida had also beaten her. It was a domestic row that led to the entire family beating up the woman.

The incident had occurred over a week ago. However, the victim approached police after the termination of pregnancy. Now Hanif, his mother and sister, have been booked for assault causing grievous injury. They have also been booked under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. The Talaiya police have begun invstigations in this regard.
