Man gets 20 years for smuggling drugs

A Kurukshetra court has sentenced a man to 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of `2 lakh for smuggling nearly 275-kg powdered poppy husk.

A Kurukshetra court has sentenced a man to 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of `2 lakh for smuggling nearly 275-kg powdered poppy husk.

A police spokesman of police said on Wednesday that following a tip off, the police had arrested the accused, identified as Mahinder Singh, resident of Dadlu village in Kurukshetra, from his fields' tubewell, and recovered poppy husk from him.

Following interrogation, five other people were arrested from the same spot, but were released by the court on Tuesday, he added.

The court said if the accused failed to pay the fine, he would have to undergo imprisonment for another two years.
