A local court in Fatehgarh Sahib has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, for allegedly raping a minor girl two years ago.

Baljit Singh, a resident of Chuni Kalan in the district, was awarded the sentence on Wednesday by the court of district and sessions Judge, Fatehgarh Sahib, G S Gill.

The Bassi Pathana police had registered a case against Baljit Singh (25) on May 11, 2009 on charges of raping a 16 year old girl, a class X student of a government school.

According to the statement given by the minor girl, on May 10, 2009 she was returning home when Baljit Singh, her neighbour, forcibly took her to a deserted place in the village and raped her.

The accused ran away after raping her and threatened her of dire consequences in case she reveals the incident to anyone, it added.
