According to the police, Pervez Alam, 25, consumed a poisonous substance just after the judge at the district court in Greater Noida’s Surajpur announced his quantum of punishment.

The incident took place in the court of judge Beena Chaudhary. According to eyewitnesses, as soon as Pervez stepped out of the court room, he took something out of his pocket and put it in his mouth.

He collapsed immediately after consuming it and was rushed to the district hospital where the doctors announced him brought dead.

"He was dead when he was brought to the hospital. We have sent the body for the post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death," said Dr Rahul, district hospital.

Pervez hailed from UP's Jyotiba Phule Nagar. He, along with his associates Pawan and Shahid, was involved in a kidnapping and murder case.

“He was under judicial custody but on bail, so he might have taken poison before coming to the court,” said SSP Parveen Kumar, adding that no one had seen him consuming the poison.
