The Sakinaka police said that the incident took place on Tuesday in Kajupada area of Kamani, Kurla (West).

Nisha Ghadge was alone at home, when her brother-in-law, Siddharth Ghadge, approached her for some money.

Nisha, however, knew that Siddharth, who was unemployed, abused drugs, and refused to lend him the money.

Siddarth would often take money from Nisha and Nitin, the deceased’s husband, on the pretext that he needed it for some important work. But once he got the money, he would spend it to purchase drugs, police said.

Siddharth tried to convince Nisha, but she did not come around, and they reportedly got into an argument.

Then, in a fit of rage, Siddharth allegedly hit Nisha on the head with a heavy object, and fled. A few hours later, Nitin came home and found his wife lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital. She died on Thursday, while undergoing treatment.

During the course of the treatment, Nisha had told Nitin and the police about Tuesday’s events and Siddharth had been booked for attempt to murder.

“However, after Nisha’s death, we have converted the charge to murder,” said a police officer from the Sakinaka police, who did not wish to be named.

The police are on the lookout for Siddharth, who is currently absconding.
