A honeymoon in Shimla ended with the murder of a 28-year-old woman. Her husband allegedly pushed her off a cliff near the popular hill resort on February 22.
Her body was recovered on Tuesday. Simranpal Singh Bhullar, who hails from Ferozepur in Punjab, was arrested on Monday, after his parents complained that their son and daughter-in-law had gone missing. The couple had married on January 17.
Simranjit Kaur’s body was found from a gorge in Hasan valley, a thick forest area near Kufri on the outskirts of Shimla, on the basis of information given by Bhullar to Ferozepur police.
He was brought to Shimla on Tuesday and will be produced in court on Wednesday.
“Bhullar has confessed to the crime. We have booked him for murder under section 302 of IPC,’’ said Anand Dhiman, additional SP, Shimla.
According to Shimla Police, Bhullar’s suspicion that his wife was having an extra-marital affair had led to an argument.
“After pushing his wife, Bhullar waited on the spot for more than 30 minutes to ensure that she was dead,” said Dhiman.
The accused then fled to Chandigarh. Kaur’s body has been sent to Indira Gandhi Medical College hospital in Shimla for autopsy.
