A newly married man on Thursday sought police protection for his wife accusing her family members of kidnapping her as she had married against their wishes and expressing fears that she could be killed by them.
Ajit Singh of Garhi village near Loni had married Krishna, a resident of Noida, five days back on June 19 at an Arya Samaj temple in Yamuna Bazar but on June 22 the girl's brothers and other relatives who were against their marriage reached the village and called a panchayat.
They then forcibly lifted the girl and brought her back to Noida threatening to kill Ajit's entire family if he dared take her name, Ajit said in his complaint to SSP Raghubir Lal.
He also sought police protection for his wife as he feared that she could be killed by her brothers and relatives as they were opposed to their marriage.
Acting on his complaint, the SSP has directed Loni police to provide security to Ajit and his family and approached authorities in Noida to provide protection to his wife.
In another case Ravi, a resident of Hapur, also demanded security for his family saying that the parents of the girl he was in love with had threatened to kill him if he dared to marry her.
A newly married couple in Muradnagar have also expressed fear of being killed as they had married without the consent of their parents.
