The main function was organised at Kangla, the ancient palace of Manipur, where Governor Gurbachan Jagat inspected the guard of honour and took salute from contingents of home guards, police, and central para military forces.

Official sources said there was a heavy deployment of security forces in view of the Republic Day celebration boycott call given by Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF).

Security and police forces patrolled all major roads of Imphal and surrounding areas.
