In an attempt to combat militants, Manipur Government has decided to recruit 3,100 Village Defence Force (VDF) members for all the districts in the state.

Director General of Police Y Joy Kumar said in a statement on Friday that the VDF members would work with regular police forces in different police stations.
The VDF members would be deployed in Imphal East, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Bishenpur, Ukhrul, Chandel and Senapati districts.
Kumar said each VDF member would be paid Rs 3,000 per month as remuneration, besides Rs 570 as ration money.
He said the recruitment process would begin from October five.
