Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived on a two-day visit to this picturesque Russian city Sunday afternoon as a special invitee to the G8 Summit of leaders of industrialised nations.
Apart from participating at the outreach summit on Monday, the prime minister's packed engagements include bilateral meetings with host President Vladimir Putin, US President George W Bush, Chinese President Hu Jintao besides leaders of Germany, Japan and Brazil.
The main themes of this year's G8 Summit - hosted for the first time by Russia - are energy, health and education. But the Russian Federation has said terrorism, nuclear proliferation and regional conflicts would also be in focus.
Manmohan Singh himself is expected to raise the issue of terrorism prominently during his engagements, particularly against the backdrop of Tuesday's bombings in Mumbai and Srinagar that left over 200 dead and more than 700 injured.
The G8 comprises the US, Russia, Britain, Japan, France, Germany, Italy and Canada. The outreach invitees to this year's summit include India, Kazakhstan, China, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa and Congo.
