A woman was killed and another injured when Maoist rebels attacked a security post in Nepal's western town of Nepalgunj, police sources said on Monday.

Security forces posted at the check post retaliated and an encounter broke out between the two sides in which two persons were injured on Sunday, they said.

This is the third time that Maoists have attacked the security post in Nepalgunj since the withdrawal of their unilateral ceasefire on January 2.

The woman, caught between the cross firing, died while undergoing treatment at a local hospital, police said.

The Maoists also bombed the district development committee buildings in Gulariya in western Nepal.

The rebels triggered three bombs in the building following which an encounter broke out between the security forces and Maoists.

The building was damaged in the attack.
