The incident took place late on Monday at Deojora village in Aurangabad district, police in Patna said.

About half a dozen people were injured in the attack against village headman Ashok Kumar Singh, who was going to contest in a panchayat poll next month, and his supporters.

The guerrillas also set fire to the bodies and three vehicles, said a senior official.

"All the bodies were burnt by them," he said.

The sensational killings have shocked people in the area and top district administration officials are camping in the village.
