Pluleshwari Devi, mother of Nageshwar Mahto, his wife Lakhmani Devi and daughters Ritu (3) and Mitu (5) were killed by alleged CPI(Maoist) activists at Pachubigha village in the Naxal-hit district late on Monday night, Superintendent of Police G.P. Sinha said.

The rebels slit the throats of their victims and left them to bleed to death. Mahto, police said, had a dispute over a piece of land with a distant cousin, Avadhesh Singh, who is suspected to have hired the Naxalites to eliminate him.

The Naxalites reportedly left behind a leaflet threatening Mahto with the death of other family members, if he did not not settle the dispute in favour of Avadhesh Singh.
