"The marriage of very poor, ten Hindu and five Muslim girls was solemnised at a common platform. A Maulavi performed Nikah on one hand, while vedic mantras were chanted on the other to solemnise Hindu marriage," Mr Riazuddin, president of youth body Sankalp Welfare Society said.

"The fruits of this novel community marriage would be visible in coming years. There could be no better way to convey the message of communal harmony," Dr Ashok Kumar, Chairman Satarkta Ayog Uttar Pradesh said while blessing the couples today.

Fifteen grooms on horseback accompanied with a music band came in a procession to the wedding venue where political party leaders were also present.

"Every pair was given LPG stove and cylinder, fans, utensils, clothings, beddings and few ornaments as gift.

"Cash as 'Kanya Daan' was also given by leaders of different political parties including former minister Shyam Sundar Sharma, MLA Pooran Prakash and Jayant Chaudhary, the in-charge of youth matters in UP," Mr Vineet Kapoor the secretary of Sankalp Society said.
