Of the total sales of Maruti vehicles in the state, WagonR constitutes 17 per cent, Arun Malhotra, Chief General Manager (sales), told a press meet in Kochi after launching the new WagonR in the Kerala market.

He said in Kerala 6,500 Maruti cars were sold last year -- about 600 cars per month.

He said Maruti sold about five lakh cars in the domestic market last year, of which one lakh were WagonRs.

The new WagonR launched on Saturday was 10 per cent more fuel efficient compared to the outgoing WagonR, he claimed.

Maruti also launched its WagonR Duo, which can run on Petrol and LPG. The running cost of WagonR Duo, using LPG, is about 33 per cent less than that of a petrol vehicle in the same category, he said.

In the next five years, Maruti would come out with new models and refresh and upgrade existing models every year, he added.

On the new WagonR, he said it has been styled and designed by Indian engineers at Maruti. After the success achieved by these engineers in developing the Swift, the new WagonR was another example of Maruti's growing styling and design expertise.

The new WagonR comes in eight colours. The introductory price on the new petrol Wagon R Lx is Rs 3.29,275; WagonR Lxi at Rs 3,49,092; and Wagon R Vxi Rs 3,72,690. The Duo Wagon R lx is priced at Rs 3,46,260 and Duo Wagon R Lxi at Rs 3,68,591.
