Marziyeh Meshkini's entire family is into filmmaking no wonder she was the last one to learn the ropes of filmmaking. Born in 1969 in Tehran, she got married to Mohsen Makhmalbaf at an early age and looked after the family till she joined the family business.Mohsen, who defies traditional education and social values, believes that life itself is the best teacher, hence pulled his wife into the filmmaking business. She learned art of making cinema in Makhmalbaf Film School for five years (1996-2001). Having started her film studies later than her children, Marziyeh began her film career as her daughter Samira's assistant. She has directed two films so far - The Day I Became A Woman and Stray Dogs. Her directorial debut The Day I Became A Woman depicted the pitiable position of women in Iran. In the film she focused on the lives of women who are locked in the house, not because they are hated but because they are loved.
