Earlier, medical college principal Dr RD Mukhija welcomed the team comprising Dr RB Kurin (for inspection of the skin department), Dr Usha Kala (for the Department of Gynaecology), Dr Naresh Gupta (for the Department of Medicines) and Dr Washishdhar (for the Department of Anaesthesia).
The team will submit its report in Delhi. It was after a 20-year gap that an MCI team visited the medical college for inspection of postgraduate classes.
Earlier, an MCI team had inspected MBBS classes in 1999 and the team had reduced the number of seats due to poor infrastructure.
At the time of inception of the medical college, there were 150 seats in MBBS classes. There are just 100 seats now.
Postgraduate students had been demanding inspection by the MCI since long as they apprehended their degrees would have little value without the MCI’s nod. In light of these demands, medical college authorities invited the MCI team for an inspection.
There are only two remaining PG seats in the Medicine Department, but there is no professor. Four seats in the department were slashed by the Medical Council of India owing to shortage of teachers.
Medical college authorities have launched an exercise on a war footing to fulfil norms set by the MCI for recognition of their degreed.
They have modified the central library, operation hall and wards in a bid to satisfy members of the team.
Dr Mukhija expressed confidence team members would be satisfied, as the college authorities had taken steps to improve infrastructure.
