This was stated by Maa Ganga Mukti Abhiyaan convenor Swami Harichaitanya Brahmachari of Tikarmafi Ashram in an interaction with mediapersons here on Monday.

He said in the ancient period, kings ensured the protection of Ganga and sants.
Now sants, who are finding no help from the government and others for the Ganga Mukti Abhiyaan, will seek assistance from former kings of erstwhile princely states.

Former ruler of Pratapgarh Abhai Pratap Singh, who was present at the Press conference, said a campaign would be launched in this regard.

“I will go on a nationwide tour to muster support for the campaign,” said Singh.

Swami Harichaitanya further called upon ‘Ganga bhakts’ to unite to save the holy river, which was integral to the identity of India. He said despite several requests to the government, no steps had been taken.

The Swami said the Ganga was above sectarianism. Thus, people from all religions should join hands to ensure its cleanliness.

Several former rulers were expected to attend the Maha Ganga Sammelan, he added.
