Meet on retrofitting of buildings begins

THE TWO-day international seminar on ?retrofitting of buildings to withstand earthquake and green construction concept? jointly organised by EPCO and Construction Industry development Council (CDIC) began here today. Minister Revenue Kamal Patel inaugurated the seminar. In his inaugural address, he emphasised on the need for promotion of earthquake resistant building construction.

Further he said districts falling under earthquake prone areas should be taken on priority and it must be ensured that building codes are enforced effectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman MP Housing Board Subroto Banerjee highlighted the need for retrofitting of buildings and promoting green technology.

An award was announced, on the occasion, to promote green construction and integrated buildings. MP Housing Board in association with Glasgow University of UK instituted the award. Many eminent earthquake engineering experts and others are participating in the seminar.
