Meghalaya unit of BJPon Mondaycharged DD Lapang-led Congress Government in the state with being a "mute spectator" to the problem of infiltration of Bangladesh nationals and said effective steps must be taken to check it.

"If nothing is done at this juncture to stop infiltration, the state's future would be similar to that of Assam," the party said in a release.

Expressing concern over "the prevailing law and order situation", the party urged the state government to beef up security in view of the coming festive season.

The law and order situation in Meghalaya and political scenario of the state, besides socio-economic issues would be discussed at BJP national convention in Mumbai, it said adding a 10-member delegation, led by state unit President AL Hek, would attend the convention, beginning December 28.
