Mehdi demands CBI probe into charges against Azam

CONGRESS MLC Siraj Mehdi today demanded a CBI probe into property of Urban Development Minister Mohd Azam Khan. He said the TV channel had provided substantial evidence about the land and house grabbing by the minister in Rampur. The charge required a thorough investigation, he said.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, Mehdi said senior SP leaders were, however, involved in exposing the minister’s misdeeds.

He also said that it had also been done to please the Rampur MP Jaya Prada.

Referring to the cartoons published in a Danish newspaper, the Congress leaders demanded recall of India’s envoy to Denmark. Expressing concern over the objectionable cartoons, Mehdi said he would send a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for snapping ties with Denmark. BSP chief Mayawati has already demanded recall of the envoy. Mehdi said the statement of Haj and minorities welfare minister Haji Yaqoob Quereshi fixing price on the head of cartoonist, the Congress leader said the SP and the BJP had been trying to vitiate the atmosphere on the issue. Mehdi said Quereshi had issued the statement with the connivance of chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
