Police recovered 21 meters, including nine of Chinese make, and other equipment from a workshop.

Police said the racket, which involved underbilling, caused a huge loss to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).

Reports said police were checking vehicles at the Sankat Mochan crossing where station officer Manoj Pant and others spotted two suspects carrying bags on foot.

When policeman asked them to stop, the two tried to run away, but were caught.

During interrogation, the men identified themselves as Jaishree of Khojwa and Banloo of Rohania area. They said they earned a handsome amount for reducing the actual power meter reading. They ran a small workshop in the Sarainandan area in this connection.

Following the arrested men’s disclosure, police raided their workshop, recovering meters and other equipment. Police launched a search for other members of the gang.
