MGR's death anniversary observed in Tamil Nadu

AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa led cadres in paying homage to party founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M G Ramachandran on his 21st anniversary today.

AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa led cadres in paying homage to party founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M G Ramachandran on his 21st anniversary today.

Jayalalithaa and scores of party activists paid floral tributes to the late leader at his memorial at the Marina here and observed two minutes silence.

After paying tributes, partymen took a pledge to follow MGR's ideals and work hard towards bringing the party back to power in the state.

M G Ramachandran floated AIADMK in 1972, after he was suspended from DMK for alleging that the ministers were induling in corrupt practices. He became Chief Minister in 1977 and continued to be in office till his death on December24, 1987.

Elsewhere in the state, AIADMK workers offered floral tributes to the later leader. Songs from his popular films were played throughout the state.
