Official sources said a combined team of police commandos and Assam Rifles personnel raided Kakching, about 45 Kms south-east of Imphal, at around 5.45 a.M.
As the raids went on, the personnel were fired upon by militants and in the ensuing gun-battle one militant was killed while some others escaped towards a nearby hill. The identity of the slain ultra was not own.
One grenade was recovered from the spot and the body has been sent to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here for post mortem.
About 35 persons were killed in militancy-related incidents in Manipur this year.
Over 470 persons were killed last year in Manipur in militancy-related incidents.
