The militants demanded the money from Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (CHSEM) over phone as well as through a letter, said the officials.

Senior officials in the CHSEM said that if militants continued to extort money and remained firm on their demands, it might not be possible to hold the annual examinations on time.

Meanwhile, the staff of CHSEM had held a protest sit-in against the demands of the militants in Imphal on Tuesday.
