Sources said the militants abducted the official identified as S Indrajit Singh on December 15 but an FIR was filed with the police only a few days ago.

Singh was taken at gunpoint from a place near his office and his whereabouts were still unknown, they said.

Several social organisations including major civil society group, United Committee Manipur (UCM), in separate statements have demanded release of the official.

Sit-in protest was also held by staff members of the education department to press for immediate release of Indrajit Singh, official sources said.
