Satya Devi’s 15-year-old daughter Khushboo went missing from her employer’s Noida house a few months ago.

After the Nithari killings came to light three years ago, the Noida Police had issued an order to immediately file a case in case of a missing person. The police were also told to sincerely follow such cases.

The bungalow’s owner, businessman Moninder Singh Pandher, and his help Surendra Koli were later arrested on charges of rape and murder.

Satya Devi said, “A woman from Sector 26 Noida came to my employer’s house in Gorakhpur close to two years ago. She said she wanted a maid and I offered to send my daughter to work for her.”

The woman said her daughter called her once a month but since November her daughter had not called at all.

“I called my daughter’s employer on her mobile phone but she didn’t take the call. I feared something must have gone wrong and so I decided to come to Noida,” Satya Devi said.

She reached Noida on December 18 and went to the employer’s house. She was told that her daughter had gone missing a few months ago.

“I went to Nithari Police chowki to lodge a complaint but was sent back.”

Omveer Awana, a resident of C-44, Sector 26, said, “I saw the woman roaming around with a child and sleeping under a tree outside a local hospital. I offered her my garage for shelter.”

“We informed the police about her daughter but nobody helped her. One constable came but left after asking some questions.”

Social worker Commodore L.K. Batra said, “The police swung into action today but only after I called the media.”

“They (police) have learnt nothing from the Nithari episode and are not taking such complaints seriously.”

Noida Senior Superintendent of Police A.K. Singh, when contacted by HT this evening, said, “I have directed the Sector 20 police station to lodge a missing person FIR immediately. A case was filed by late evening. I have ordered an inquiry and the guilty policemen will not be spared.”

P.P. Singh, SHO of Sector 20, said, “The employer has gone out of station. We will talk to her only after she gets back to Noida.”
