The musical evening organised by the Cultural Directorate began with Mishra, who belongs to the Benares Gharana, presenting Raag Kalyanpur and his recitations in three steps namely ‘Vilambit’, ‘Madhya’ and ‘Dhrut’.
Although he performed to a limited audience present, the lyrics of the first presentation set the devotional mood for the rest of the programme. His rendition ‘Hari Ke Gun Gayo’ was excellent and he later went on to recite some more bhajans in his soulful voice.
‘Baaje Mori Payal’ in ‘Teen Taal’ elicited a good response from the audience. The pitch and variation while rendering melodious notes were perfectly in sync with the rhythm of the instrumentation, which held the audience in rapt attention. Mishra was accompanied by Kalinath Mishra (tabla) Jitendra Sharma (harmonium), Bharat Bhushan Goswami (sarangi) and other co-artistes.
Earlier, Commissioner Culture Pankaj Raag greeted the artists. Mishra also expressed his gratitude towards music lovers in the City and wished them a prosperous Dusshera and Diwali in advance.
