Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly on Monday rued the opportunity to level the Test series against Australia saying his team could have successfully chased the target although it could have been a tight match.

"It was a 50-50 game, anybody could have won. We were in a position to get 300 odd runs but it would have been hard work. Australia also were in position to win. It could have gone either way," Ganguly said after the second Test ended in a draw following rains on the fifth and final day.

Asked whether India had scored a moral victory considering that they dominated for most part of the match, Ganguly said he did not believe in such concepts.

"I do not believe in moral victory. Either you win or lose. The Australian showed a lot of character on the fourth day till we got Damien Martyn out. I have seen a lot of teams, as also the Australians, being rolled over in these situations.

"We must give credit to Martyn and Gillespie. They showed a lot of steel and put their team in a position from where they could win," he said.

India needed to score 210 runs on the final day for a series-levelling win with all their wickets intact.
