Misuse of land
It is very sad to see what is happening in Singur, West Bengal. There have already been strong protests for the rights of the farmers, but nobody is asking why agricultural land is being used for setting up industry.
It is very sad to see what is happening in Singur, West Bengal. There have already been strong protests for the rights of the farmers, but nobody is asking why agricultural land is being used for setting up industry. They are taking the lands of poor farmers to set up a plant to serve the rich. This is certainly not sustainable development.

Cheer Team India
India has cause for cheer in the recently concluded ODIs. One, it has consistently lost every game. Two, it finally managed to bat through all the 50 overs. Finally, team India managed to score all of 200 runs. Cheers to that!

Sourav Ganguly is back in the team because of lack of bench strength and not for his batting. Every player goes through a rough patch, as Ganguly is going through now. But the time has come for him to prove himself the Bengal Tiger and live up to the expectation of crores of his fans.

Ethnic cleansing
In Neelesh Misra’s interview (Pandit killers immature, says Geelani, Dec 01), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, for the first time, has admitted that the expulsion of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley was preplanned. Geelani is the spiritual leader of the Islamists, particularly the Hizbul-Mujahideen, which played a leading role in the massacre of over 3000 Hindus in Kashmir.

Muslim backwardness
The Sachar panel report fails to point out the ‘real reason for Muslim backwardness’ and instead creates the impression that Muslims are insecure in India and are discriminated against.
There is no historical evidence of oppression of Muslims who, in fact, enjoyed preferential treatment for centuries under Muslim rule. Muslims are backward today because of their religious conservatism.
