Once, the AU's Executive Council and Medical Council of India gives 'go ahead' to the course, Moti Lal Nehru Medical College will become the fourth institution in the State to offer DM Cardiology degree.
The DM Cardiology course will have three seats with teacher student ratio of 1:1. The basic qualification for the course will be MD Medicine or MD Paediatrics. The entrance test will be organised separately on the lines of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) or jointly with Kanpur and Lucknow (common entrance test depending on the status of MLNMC).
"Major hurdles have been removed with the approval of Board of Studies and Allahabad University Academic Council for starting DM Cardiology course at MLN Medical College. Now we are waiting for the approval of the AU Executive Council and the Medical Council of India.
These formalities may take some time. The admissions in the DM Cardiology may start from 2008, depending on the infrastructure and other basic formalities," said Dr PC Saxena, MLN Medical College principal and head of the Department of Cardiology.
Dr Saxena said: "The three-year degree course aims to produce the best cardiologists in the country. Depending on the status of the medical college, the admission criteria would be decided for students in UP and other states," he added.
"The Department of Cardiology has also been updated with the approval of Cath Lab and other state-of-the-art machines for managing complicated cases at the medical college," he said.
