Jhunjhunwala said new economic policies in the last decade and a half had demonstrated that “multinational companies cannot improve our economic status”.

He said India would be able to preserve its culture only if the country emerged as an economic powerhouse.

He was expressing his views at the concluding session of a three-day-long national conference on the ‘Future of Rural India’ at MP Inter College in Jungle Dhusar.

He said if multinational companies had invested around Rs 6 billion in the country, Indian industrialists had invested around Rs 2.5 billion in other countries. He said India was importing gold to the tune of one ton every year.

Jhunjhunwala said, “Though we are keen to save our culture, we should not be afraid of western culture which is impacting on our daily lives.”

He said urban culture and Indian culture were not contrary to each other. He expressed hope that India would play a leading role in the emerging scenario in the world for establishing peace and prosperity. He called upon people to save rural Indian society.

Participants presented research papers and said the future of India was very bright.

RP Mishra from Allahabad University, Prof Noor Mohammad from Jawaharlal Nehur University and Prof RS Dubey from Sagar University claimed that every Indian should realise his duty.

They also said vote bank politics was a major hindrance in development of rural areas. They cited the rural scenario in Japan and other countries and said that politics should focus on development of villages.
