MNNIT convocation, alumni meet on November 11
AROUND 426 budding engineers, 160 post-graduate engineers, 55 masters of computer application and 28 masters of management studies along with three research scholars will finally receive their coveted degrees at the glittering Third Convocation Function of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) scheduled to be held on November 11.
AROUND 426 budding engineers, 160 post-graduate engineers, 55 masters of computer application and 28 masters of management studies along with three research scholars will finally receive their coveted degrees at the glittering Third Convocation Function of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) scheduled to be held on November 11.

The convocation function this year would be special as it will coincide with the Institute's first ever international alumni meet which is being organised on the sidelines of the convocation ceremony and is set to conclude on November 13. The institute would also celebrate the Silver Jubilee of 1981 batch alumni after the convocation function.
Founder Director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Bangalore Prof NS Ramaswamy would be the chief guest of the convocation function.
"We are trying to send a special message to our graduating students and policy makers by our selection of Prof Ramaswamy as the chief guest as he has done a tremendous job in rural sector and is involved in various welfare projects in rural India," said MNNIT Director Prof Arun Baran Samaddar.
He said that graduating students should develop technologies which can be implemented in the adverse and challenging conditions existing in rural India and prove helpful in the development of the region.
A total of around 30 gold medals will be awarded to outstanding students excelling in their respective fields of technical education. "The categories comprise institutional gold medals, branch-wise gold medals and year-wise gold medals and overall performance gold medals for the toppers. Meritorious students would also be felicitated with a number of silver and bronze medals as well," Prof Samaddar added.
Special memorial medals would be awarded to bright students by the office of Dean Student Affairs which includes Ratan Prakash Gold Medal for MTech Structurals, Production and Machines, Vismit Duggal Memorial Medal for MTech (surveying), RN Tiwari Memorial Medal for Electrical Graduate besides others medals in the field of chemistry, water resource and steel structure among others.
Best Overall Student will be awarded with the prestigious VC Agarwal Medal.
The preparations for making the convocation ceremony a grand success is on at full swing with the around 15 committees of faculty members looking after separate responsibilities including stage, reception, invitation, press and publicity, gown distribution and others.
"This year the convocation ceremony is coinciding with the alumni meet which is expected to be attended by over 1000 MNNITians from India as well as abroad," informed Prof Rakesh Narain, Dean Student Affairs and the in-charge of the alumni meet.
He said that MNNITians diaspora which is spread across the globe is being tracked through e-mails, websites and snail posts.
"Various meetings by regional MNNITian associations have been organised to muster the support of former students who are at the helm of affairs in various corporations," he added.
He said that efforts are also on to develop a database and for this various MNNITian forums abroad including one in the US, Europe and Mumbai and Delhi have been contacted.
Prof Narain said that Institutes like IITs have drawn huge funds in the form of financial help from its alumni for the further development of their alma mater and MNNIT too is moving ahead in that direction.
