MNNIT?s 39th annual athletic tournament to kick off today

The Deemed University's students, both boys and girls, teaching and non-teaching staff members as well as their wards will participate in a number of sporting events like 100 m sprint, shot-put, discus and hammer throw, 4X100 m relay, 3000 m race, javelin throw and tug-of-war among others besides a number of informal events like sack race, slow-cycling race, three-legged race and many more during the three-day meet.
"The meet will be inaugurated by Allahabad Commissioner Dr Lalit Verma at 9.30 am on Thursday.
The inaugural function will be presided over by MNNIT Director Prof Arun Baran Samaddar," informed Prof Rakesh Narain, president of MNNIT Student Activity Centre.
Prof Narain said that post inaugural ceremony, semi-finals of 100 m race (boys), 200 m race (boys), finals of 100 m race (girls), hammer throw (boys), shot-put (girls), 800 m race (girls) and 1500 m race (boys) will be held during the first half of day one.
Post-lunch, events like finals of Hop step and jump (boys), 400 m race (girls), Hop step and jump (girls), javelin throw (girls), High jump (boys), High jump (girls), and 800 m race (boys) besides semi-finals of 400 m race (boys) will take place, he added.
On January 20, 2006, a number of events like the finals of 110 m race (boys), 110 m race (girls), Javelin throw (boys), 4x400 m relay race (girls), 4x400 m relay race (boys) and semi-finals and finals of tug-of-war (boys) will be held in the first half of the day.
"After the lunch break, finals of long jump (boys), long jump (girls), 400 m race (boys), discus throw (girls), discus throw (boys), 4x100 m relay race (girls) and 3000 m race (boys) will take place," Prof Narain said.
On the concluding day, finals of 5000 m race (boys), 200 m race (girls), 200 m race (boys), shot-put (boys), 2000 m fast cycling (girls), 8000 m fast cycling (boys) will take place.
"We have also organised a 200 m race for our non-teaching class-III and equivalent technical staff besides a 400 m race for our non-teaching class-IV, lab bearers and equivalent staff in the first half.
Similarly in the second half, 100 m race for staff wards below 12 years, 100 m race for teaching, administrative staff and guests below 40 years, 50 m race for teaching, administrative staff and guests above 40 years, 100 m race (boys) final besides musical chair for ladies have been planned," Prof Narain said.
These events will be besides the informal events like back race, cart race and 4x100 m mixed relay race among others.
"DIG range Akhilesh Mehrotra will be the chief guest of closing ceremony scheduled to start at 3.30 pm on January 21. MNNIT director will deliver the welcome address, president SAC will present the annual report followed by the prize distribution by the chief guest," he added.
