"Criticism is needed in a democracy or else it would jeopardise the system, but it has to be within limits," he said.

Addressing a meeting of party MLAs at which BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu was also present, Modi reminded them that the victory in the assembly elections has brought greater responsibility to meet the expectations of the people.

He said his government whould strive to fulfill all the promises given in the election manifesto.

He told the MLAs that the government's motto would be "appeasement of none and justice to all."

Naidu, in his speech, made some critical remarks about the media. Stating that some journalists asked him if Muslims were included when Modi referred to five crore Gujaratis, the BJP President said it included all the communities.
