Month-long tribute to martyrs
IN MEMORY of war martyrs and victims of terrorist attacks, a month long function was kicked off on the bank of river Ganga at Dr Rajendra Prasad Ghat in Varanasi on Sunday evening. For the next one month, Akash Deeps will be lighted as a mark of respect to the martyrs.
IN MEMORY of war martyrs and victims of terrorist attacks, a month long function was kicked off on the bank of river Ganga at Dr Rajendra Prasad Ghat in Varanasi on Sunday evening. For the next one month, Akash Deeps will be lighted as a mark of respect to the martyrs.

The function is being organised under the auspices of a social organisation, Ganga Seva Nidhi. It may be mentioned that Akash Deep is a hanging lamp tied with a long pole or bamboo. As per tradition, religious importance is attached to lighting Akash Deep during the pious month of Kartik.
Amid tune of Army band and guard of honour, 18 Akash Deeps were lighted by Army officials and prominent personalities. Group Captain SW Gosewde of 4th Air Force Selection Board Varanasi, kicked off the function.
The function is organised every year in memory of war martyrs of all the three wings of the Indian Defence Services, CRPF, Indian Tibetan Border Police and Border Security Force.
Other prominent dignitaries, who participated in the function, included Col Ajeet and Col Kshetri of 39 Gorkha Training Centre, Commandant NJ Upadhyay, president of Ganga Seva Nidhi, Satyendra Mishra and senior general manager of LIC, Padampati Dwivedi.
