In a statement in Bhopal, Singh, a former Chief Minister said Shivraj Singh Chouhan was giving irresponsible statements in this case, saying he did not believe the case to be that of murder.
"This statement exposed the mentality of the government," the Congress leader said.
Singh urged the lone eyewitness in the case, a college chowkidar, be given complete protection and strict action be taken after impartial inquiry into the case.
Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh Shikshak Congress (MPSC) has urged the teacher community to protest Professor HS Sabharwal's death by wearing black armbands on the occasion of Teacher's Day on September 5.
In a statement in Bhopal on Saturday, MPSC President Rameshwar Neekhra condemned the alleged killing of the professor and alleged that the incident took place due to "fascist policies" of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
